The Quartile Take

Blue Streak is a serviceable late-90s action comedy built on a clever enough premise — a thief posing as a detective to retrieve his hidden diamond — but the plot is thin and predictable once the setup is established. Martin Lawrence carries the film with his energetic comedic performance, bringing charm that elevates otherwise formulaic material. The chemistry between Lawrence and Luke Wilson provides some genuine laughs. Cinematography is workmanlike at best, with no memorable visual choices. The concept of a criminal inadvertently becoming good at policing has some novelty in its execution, though the idea itself isn't wholly original. The ending resolves predictably without much payoff beyond the expected resolution, leaving little lasting impression.
