Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
A mouthy and feisty taxicab driver has hot tips for a green and inept cop set on solving a string of New York City bank robberies committed by a quartet of female Brazilian bank robbers.
The 2004 American remake of the French Taxi franchise transplants the concept to New York but loses much of the charm in translation. The plot is formulaic and predictable, relying on broad comedy and action setpieces without much depth. Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon have uneven chemistry, with Fallon's bumbling cop routine wearing thin quickly. The cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable for a mainstream action-comedy. The film brings little new to the table beyond its premise, essentially recycling the original French film's concept without adding distinctive value. The ending resolves predictably with no real surprises. A passable but forgettable mid-2000s studio comedy-action film.
