Marcus is a successful advertising executive who woos and beds women almost at will. After a company merger he finds that his new boss, the ravishing Jacqueline, is treating him in exactly the same way. Completely traumatised by this, his work goes badly downhill.
Boomerang has an amusing gender-reversal premise that gives it some novelty for its era — a cocky womanizer getting a taste of his own medicine from a female boss — and benefits from a charismatic cast including Eddie Murphy, Halle Berry, and Robin Givens. However, the plot is fairly predictable once the premise is established, following a formulaic rom-com arc with limited surprises. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, typical of early-90s studio comedies. The ending resolves too neatly and conventionally, undercutting the sharper edges the film occasionally flashes. Acting is the brightest spot, with strong ensemble energy, though Murphy coasts somewhat on charm rather than range.
