After Gordon Bombay's hockey comeback is cut short he is named coach of Team USA Hockey for the Junior Goodwill Games. Bombay reunites the Mighty Ducks and introduces a few new players, however, he finds himself distracted by his newfound fame and must regather if the Ducks are to defeat tournament favourites Iceland.
D2 is a competent but formulaic sequel that hits all the expected beats of the original without adding much new. The plot follows a predictable underdog sports arc with the added distraction-of-fame subplot that resolves tidily. Acting is serviceable from the young cast with Emilio Estevez doing solid work but nothing remarkable. Cinematography is standard early-90s family film fare. Novelty is low as it largely recycles the first film's structure with a grander international stage. The ending delivers the crowd-pleasing climax the genre demands, executed with enough energy to satisfy its target audience.
