Big rig ice road driver Mike McCann travels to Nepal to scatter his late brother’s ashes on Mt. Everest. While on a packed tour bus traversing the deadly 12,000 ft. terrain of the infamous Road to the Sky, McCann and his mountain guide encounter a group of mercenaries and must fight to save themselves, the busload of innocent travelers, and the local villagers’ homeland.
Ice Road: Vengeance moves the franchise from frozen tundra to Himalayan mountain roads, which provides some visual spectacle and a change of scenery, earning a modest bump in cinematography. However, the plot is largely formulaic — a lone tough-guy protagonist stumbles into a mercenary threat and must save innocent bystanders, recycling well-worn action thriller beats. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable, typical of mid-tier streaming action fare. The sequel nature and by-the-numbers mercenary antagonist setup keep novelty low, and the ending resolves predictably without meaningful surprise or resonance.
