Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Legendary secrets are revealed as Aladdin and his friends—Jasmine, Abu, Carpet and, of course, the always entertaining Genie—face all sorts of terrifying threats and make some exciting last-minute escapes pursuing the King Of Thieves and his villainous crew.

The Quartile Take

A direct-to-video Disney sequel that follows a fairly formulaic adventure structure with the introduction of Aladdin's father adding some emotional weight. The animation quality is noticeably lower than the theatrical original, though Robin Williams' return as the Genie elevates the voice acting considerably. The plot is serviceable but recycled from the Arabian Nights well without much invention, and the ending wraps things up neatly for the franchise. A decent but unremarkable entry in the direct-to-video sequel era.
