Flight Risk (2025)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A pilot transports a U.S. Marshal accompanying a government witness to a trial in New York. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

The Quartile Take

Flight Risk is a contained thriller with a simple three-character premise set over Alaska, but it fails to elevate its high-concept setup. The plot relies on predictable twists and formulaic tension beats common to the claustrophobic thriller subgenre. Acting is serviceable but uneven, with Mark Wahlberg's eccentric pilot performance feeling inconsistent rather than compelling. The Alaskan wilderness backdrop provides some visual interest and decent cinematography for the budget and setting. Novelty is low — the 'not everyone is who they seem on a small aircraft' premise is well-worn territory with little distinctive voice or craft to set it apart. The ending resolves without much surprise or emotional payoff, landing as generically as the setup promised.
