Pusher II (2004)

Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating

Tonny is released from prison - again. This time he has his mind set on changing his broken down life, but that is easier said than done.

The Quartile Take

Pusher II follows Tonny's release from prison and his struggle with fatherhood and criminal ties in Copenhagen. Kim Bodnia's absence is felt but Mads Mikkelsen delivers a raw, career-defining performance as Tonny, carrying emotional weight that elevates the film above its crime-drama conventions. The plot is lean and character-driven but follows a fairly predictable descent arc. Refn's handheld, gritty Copenhagen aesthetic is consistent with the first film rather than a visual reinvention. The film deepens the Pusher universe with emotional authenticity but doesn't radically distinguish itself stylistically from its predecessor, landing as a strong but not groundbreaking sequel entry.
