Vegas Vacation (1997)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

The Griswold family hits the road again for a typically ill-fated vacation, this time to the glitzy mecca of slots and showgirls—Las Vegas.

The Quartile Take

Vegas Vacation is a formulaic entry in the National Lampoon's Vacation franchise that largely coasts on franchise goodwill. The plot recycled the same fish-out-of-water family chaos formula with diminishing returns, offering little narrative freshness beyond the Vegas backdrop. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo remain likable and committed, elevating the material somewhat. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable, functional rather than inspired. Novelty is low—this is a by-the-numbers sequel that hits familiar beats without meaningfully reinventing or distinguishing itself. The ending wraps things up predictably without any memorable payoff.
