Explore how one man's relentless drive and invention of the atomic bomb changed the nature of war forever, led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and unleashed mass hysteria.
A competent and engaging documentary covering Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project, benefiting from rich archival footage and interview material. However, this is well-trodden ground especially given the 2023 Nolan blockbuster release in the same year, making it feel somewhat derivative in conception despite solid execution. The narrative structure is straightforward biography-to-consequence, offering little that dedicated history buffs won't already know. Cinematography is standard documentary fare mixing archival footage with talking heads. The ethical framing around the bombings adds some weight to the ending but doesn't break new ground in its conclusions.
