The Quartile Take

The 2002 Rollerball remake is widely regarded as one of the worst remakes in Hollywood history. The plot is thin and incoherent, failing to capture the satirical depth of the 1975 original. The acting is wooden across the board, with even capable performers like Chris Klein delivering flat performances. The cinematography is notably poor, featuring an infamously unwatchable night-vision sequence that drew widespread mockery. As a remake, it adds nothing new to the original concept and instead strips away its social commentary, making it thoroughly derivative. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying, failing to deliver on even basic action-thriller conventions. The film holds a rare place as a critical and commercial disaster.
