The Quartile Take

Another 48 Hrs. is a largely formulaic sequel that recycles the buddy-cop chemistry of the original without adding much new. The plot is thin and convoluted — the Ice Man mystery is perfunctory and the story feels like a retread. Nolte and Murphy still have solid chemistry and Murphy in particular brings energy to his performance, keeping Acting above average. The cinematography is workmanlike at best, functional genre filmmaking with no visual distinction. Novelty is the clear weak point — this is a by-the-numbers sequel that largely duplicates the first film's beats without the freshness or surprise of the original. The ending resolves everything in a rushed and unsatisfying way, typical of late-80s/early-90s action sequels.
