The Quartile Take

Old School is a solid mid-2000s frat comedy that delivers laughs through its cast chemistry—particularly Will Ferrell at a career peak—but follows a predictable underdog-group-vs-authority structure with few surprises. The cinematography is functional at best, serving the comedy without distinction. The plot is formulaic and the ending resolves neatly and conventionally. Its novelty comes primarily from Ferrell's breakout energy and a few memorable set pieces (streaking, Frank the Tank), but the overall concept is a well-worn retread of Animal House territory. A fun, crowd-pleasing comedy that excels in performance moments but is thin elsewhere.
