The Internship (2013)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Two recently laid-off men in their 40s try to make it as interns at a successful Internet company where their managers are in their 20s.

The Quartile Take

The Internship is a formulaic fish-out-of-water comedy that coasts on the chemistry of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. The plot hits every predictable beat — underdog misfits bond with misfit teammates, overcome obstacles, and triumph in the end — with little surprise. The acting is serviceable; Vaughn and Wilson do their well-worn double-act routine competently but not memorably. Cinematography is unremarkable, functional at best, essentially a glossy extended Google advertisement. Novelty is low — the premise is thin and the execution follows the buddy-comedy playbook almost note for note. The ending is entirely predictable, delivering the expected feel-good resolution without any earned emotional weight.
