The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a visually stunning film, with Ben Stiller's direction producing breathtaking location photography across Greenland, Iceland, and the Himalayas that genuinely elevates the cinematography to exceptional territory. The daydream sequences are inventively staged. However, the plot is fairly predictable — a timid man discovers himself through adventure is well-trodden ground — and while charming, it doesn't subvert expectations. Acting is solid but unremarkable, with Stiller and Kristen Wiig delivering warm but undemanding performances. Novelty is moderate: the film has a distinct visual identity and tone but isn't truly singular in concept.
