Charley Brewster, a high school student, accidentally discovers the true and creepy nature of Jerry Dandrige, his dashing and enigmatic new neighbor; but no one seems willing to believe him.
Fright Night is a charming blend of suburban horror and self-aware comedy that stands out for its clever genre-savvy premise and a wonderfully campy yet genuinely menacing tone. Roddy McDowall's Peter Vincent and Chris Sarandon's suave vampire Jerry Dandrige are both exceptional performances that elevate the material well above average. The film's novelty lies in its unique meta-commentary on horror fandom and the 'horror host' archetype, making it distinctly singular among 80s horror films. The plot is functional and entertaining but fairly straightforward, and while the ending delivers satisfying monster-movie closure, it doesn't quite reach the heights of the film's middle act setup.
