There's trouble brewing in Bikini Bottom. Someone has stolen King Neptune's crown, and it looks like Mr. Krab, SpongeBob's boss, is the culprit. Though he's just been passed over for the promotion of his dreams, SpongeBob stands by his boss, and along with his best pal Patrick, sets out on a treacherous mission to Shell City to reclaim the crown and save Mr. Krab's life.

The plot is a straightforward hero's journey but executed with relentless comedic invention and surprising emotional sincerity, landing above average. Voice performances are energetic and perfectly calibrated to the material. Cinematography earns a solid above-average mark for its vivid, expressive visual style and the audacious live-action finale. Novelty is the standout: no other animated film quite sounds, feels, or moves like this — it's a one-of-a-kind comedic voice executed with total conviction. The ending — featuring David Hasselhoff and a triumphant Goofy Goober rock moment — is memorably wild and earns a genuine 4 for sheer audacious payoff.
