Big Fat Liar is a lightweight but energetic family comedy with a simple revenge premise. The plot is formulaic and predictable, hitting standard beats of the genre. Paul Giamatti's committed, over-the-top performance as the villainous Marty Wolf is genuinely entertaining and elevates the material. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable. The concept of a kid outsmarting a Hollywood producer isn't particularly fresh. The ending delivers satisfying comeuppance in line with genre expectations.
