Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989)

Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating

Our favourite police men are called together to deal with a gang who rob banks and jewelers. Using their various talents as well as their extraordinary luck, the crooks stand no chance against our men and women in blue.

The Quartile Take

Police Academy 6 is a deeply formulaic entry in an already repetitive franchise. By the sixth installment, the series had thoroughly exhausted its comedic premise, offering nothing new in terms of plot structure, character development, or comedic invention. The gang-heist storyline is generic and uninspired, the acting relies entirely on recycled character shtick from earlier films, cinematography is flat and workmanlike TV-movie quality, and the ending resolves predictably with zero surprise. Novelty scores a 1 as this is perhaps the definition of a derivative sequel — recycling the same gags, beats, and characters for the sixth time with diminishing returns.
