When they take some friends on an extreme sport adventure, the last thing Jared and Sam expect to see below the shark-infested waters is a legendary pirate ship rumored to contain millions of dollars in gold. But their good fortune is short-lived, as a ruthless gang of criminals gets word of what they have uncovered.
Into the Blue is a serviceable but largely forgettable underwater action-thriller. The plot is derivative, blending treasure-hunt and drug-crime elements in a predictable fashion with little narrative tension or surprise. Acting is passable but unremarkable, with the cast (Paul Walker, Jessica Alba) leaning heavily on charisma over depth. The cinematography is the film's strongest suit — the Bahamas underwater sequences are genuinely attractive and well-shot, showcasing vibrant coral and shark footage that gives the film some visual appeal. Novelty is low; the premise recycles familiar treasure-hunt and crime-thriller beats without a distinctive voice or original angle. The ending resolves predictably with little dramatic payoff, leaving minimal impression.
