A young black woman discovers that her father was a sperm donor, and if that wasn't bad enough, he's white.
Made in America is a light, formulaic romantic comedy built around a mildly novel racial-identity premise. The sperm-donor discovery hook gives it a slightly distinctive hook for its era, but the film quickly settles into predictable rom-com territory with Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson's off-screen chemistry doing most of the heavy lifting. Cinematography is unremarkable network-movie-of-the-week level, and the resolution is telegraphed well in advance. Acting is serviceable but undemanding, with the leads coasting on charm.
