In the dark silence of the sea during World War II, the submarine USS Tiger Shark prowls on what should be a routine rescue mission. But for the shell-shocked crew, trapped together in the sub's narrow corridors and constricted spaces, this is about to become a journey into the sensory delusions, mental deceptions and runaway fears that lurk just below the surface of the ocean.

The Quartile Take

Below is a moody, atmospheric supernatural thriller set aboard a WWII submarine that largely succeeds on its claustrophobic cinematography and production design — the cramped, shadow-drenched interiors create genuine dread and are among the film's strongest assets. The plot blends ghost story with psychological thriller in an interesting way, though it struggles to fully deliver on its intriguing premise, becoming muddled in its middle section. The acting is competent but unremarkable, with Bruce Greenwood doing the heavy lifting. The ending unfortunately fumbles the carefully built tension, resolving ambiguously in a way that feels unsatisfying rather than thought-provoking. Novelty is moderate — the submarine ghost story setting is distinctive enough, but the film doesn't fully exploit its originality to stand apart from comparable genre entries.
