Jumping the Blanket (1895)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

Four men stand holding what appears to be a blanket, while one wearing a hat stands watching. A sixth man then runs towards them and attempts to jump into the blanket.

The Quartile Take

An 1895 short film capturing a simple blanket-jumping act. As an early Edison/primitive cinema piece, it holds modest historical novelty as a record of everyday amusement from the dawn of cinema, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are rudimentary by any standard. The ending is abrupt as expected of the form. Novelty earns a slight edge purely for its place in early film history and the singular charm of primitive cinema documentation.
