On a high mountain plain lives a lamb with wool of such remarkable sheen that he breaks into high-steppin' dance. But there comes a day when he loses his lustrous coat and, along with it, his pride. It takes a wise jackalope - a horn-adorned rabbit - to teach the moping lamb that wooly or not, it's what's inside that'll help him rebound from life's troubles.
Boundin' is a charming Pixar short with a simple but earnest moral fable structure — a lamb loses his confidence after being shorn and is uplifted by a philosophical jackalope. The plot is straightforward and thin even by short-film standards, but it's delivered with warmth. The narrated, rhyming storybook style gives it a distinctive folksy voice and musical rhythm that sets it apart from typical animated shorts. Cinematography captures the wide open American West with appealing color and light. The ending is gentle and tidy but satisfying within the short's modest ambitions.
