Apex (2026)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

A grieving woman pushing her limits on a solo adventure in the Australian wild is ensnared in a twisted game with a cunning killer who thinks she's prey.

The Quartile Take

Apex follows a well-worn survival thriller template — lone woman hunted by a cunning predator in the wilderness — that offers competent execution but little that distinguishes it from similar cat-and-mouse genre entries. The Australian wilderness setting and the grieving protagonist add modest emotional texture to the plot, and the acting and cinematography are serviceable enough to maintain tension, but the premise and structure feel derivative of films like The Hunt and Prey. The ending resolves adequately without surprising. Novelty suffers most, as the film recycles familiar genre beats without a distinctly singular voice or conception to set it apart.
