Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008)

Quartile rating: 4/10 · 1 rating

Pro-intelligent design scholars and scientists are often chastised, fired or denied tenured positions by those who believe in Darwin's theory of evolution.

The Quartile Take

A polemical documentary that presents a one-sided case for intelligent design while attacking evolutionary biology, 'Expelled' is widely regarded as intellectually dishonest and factually misleading. Its plot is constructed around cherry-picked anecdotes and false equivalences rather than genuine inquiry. The on-screen presence of host Ben Stein is flat and performative. Cinematography is functional at best, relying on stock footage and talking-head interviews with little visual distinction. The film breaks no new ground in either documentary form or the creationism debate, recycling long-debunked arguments. Its ending, which draws a tendentious link between Darwinism and the Holocaust, is considered by critics to be its most egregious and intellectually dishonest moment, earning it a particularly poor mark.
