However, Patrick may find that the trick is on him, for he soon begins to fall in love with his uptight adversary.

The Quartile Take

The Accidental Husband is a fairly formulaic romantic comedy that hits every expected beat of the genre without much deviation. The premise—a radio love-advice host accidentally married to a charming fireman out for revenge—has some mild intrigue but is executed in a predictable, by-the-numbers fashion. Uma Thurman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Colin Firth deliver competent if unremarkable performances, with Morgan bringing some natural charm to elevate the material slightly. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of mid-budget romantic comedies of the era. The ending resolves exactly as audiences will have anticipated from the first act, with little surprise or emotional resonance. The film adds little new to the romcom genre and sits comfortably in mediocre territory, consistent with its modest reputation.
