Barbie in 'A Christmas Carol' (2008)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

On Christmas Eve, Kelly is reluctant to go to a Christmas Eve ball, so Barbie tells her the story of Eden Starling, a glamorous singing diva in the Victorian England and the owner of a theatre house. However, Eden is self-centered and loves only herself. She is frequently accompanied by her snooty cat, Chuzzlewit. She does not believe in Christmas and orders all her employees to work on Christmas.

The Quartile Take

A direct-to-video Barbie adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol that hits all the expected beats of the source material with a female protagonist twist. The plot faithfully follows the classic ghost-visitation structure without meaningful innovation. Voice acting is serviceable but unremarkable for a DTV production. Animation is competent but modest for its era and budget. The novelty of gender-swapping Scrooge into a singing diva gives it a slight distinguishing quality, but it remains a formulaic holiday retelling within an established Barbie franchise template. The ending resolves predictably and warmly, as expected. A perfectly average entry in the Barbie animated series canon.
