When an overachieving high school student decides to travel around the country to choose the perfect college, her overprotective cop father also decides to accompany her in order to keep her on the straight and narrow.
College Road Trip is a formulaic family comedy that hits every predictable beat of the overprotective parent/independent teen road trip genre. The plot offers zero surprises, recycling well-worn conflicts without any fresh angle. Acting from Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symoné is competent but constrained by thin material. Cinematography is flat and functional, typical of mid-budget Disney live-action fare. Novelty is genuinely poor — the film is entirely derivative with no distinctive voice, tone, or creative ambition. The ending resolves in the most expected, tidy fashion imaginable.
