Everything or Nothing (2012)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

The story of three men with a shared dream: James Bond franchise producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, and Bond creator and author Ian Fleming. It’s the thrilling and inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in cinema history, which began in 1962.

The Quartile Take

A well-crafted documentary about the origins and enduring legacy of the James Bond franchise, focusing on the fascinating triumvirate of Fleming, Broccoli, and Saltzman. The narrative is genuinely compelling given the rich human drama behind the scenes — rivalries, egos, and creative tensions. However, as a talking-heads documentary it follows a fairly conventional format, limiting its cinematographic and structural ambition. Acting is not really applicable in the traditional sense, and interview subjects vary in insight. Novelty is moderate — Bond fans will find much to enjoy, but the documentary form itself is standard. A solid, informative piece for fans of cinema history without breaking new documentary ground.
