Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
Homeless and on the run from a military court martial, a damaged ex-special forces soldier navigating London's criminal underworld seizes an opportunity to assume another man's identity, transforming into an avenging angel in the process.
Hummingbird (also known as Redemption) is a mid-tier Jason Statham vehicle that leans more contemplative than his usual fare, exploring trauma, homelessness, and identity with modest ambition. The plot offers a slightly more introspective take on the revenge-thriller formula but struggles with pacing and credibility. Statham delivers a restrained, earnest performance that suits the tone, though the supporting cast is uneven. Cinematography captures a grim, rain-soaked London adequately without distinction. The premise of a damaged veteran assuming a stolen identity has some novelty but the execution falls back on familiar genre beats and the Chinese mafia subplot feels underdeveloped. The ending is anticlimactic and somewhat unsatisfying, failing to deliver either emotional catharsis or genre payoff.
