John Rambo is released from prison by the government for a top-secret covert mission to the last place on Earth he'd want to return - the jungles of Vietnam.
Rambo: First Blood Part II is a quintessential mid-80s action spectacle that leans hard into Reagan-era wish fulfillment. The plot is thin and largely formulaic — a one-man rescue mission with a government betrayal twist that feels recycled. Stallone's performance is physical but minimal in range, and the supporting cast is serviceable at best. The jungle cinematography has energy and some solid action staging, making it the film's strongest technical asset. Novelty is low — it largely abandons the psychological depth of the original First Blood in favor of a by-the-numbers action sequel. The ending delivers crowd-pleasing catharsis but little surprise.
