In this sequel to the 1980 classic, two children are stranded on a beautiful island in the South Pacific. With no adults to guide them, the two make a simple life together and eventually become tanned teenagers in love.
Return to the Blue Lagoon is a straightforward retread of its predecessor, offering virtually nothing new in terms of story or conception — two children grow up on a deserted island and discover romance, exactly as before. The plot is thin and episodic, the acting from the young leads is wooden and unconvincing, and the ending resolves without much dramatic payoff. The one genuine asset is the lush South Pacific cinematography, which captures the tropical setting with some visual appeal. However, as a sequel it is almost entirely derivative, recycling the original's premise beat for beat without meaningful creative distinction, earning a very low Novelty score.
