A baby lamp finds a ball to play with and it's all fun and games until the ball bursts. Just when the elder Luxo thinks his kid will settle down for a bit, Luxo Jr. finds a ball ten times bigger.

The Quartile Take

Luxo Jr. is a landmark in computer animation history — Pixar's breakthrough short that demonstrated CGI could convey genuine personality and emotion. Cinematography is exceptional for its era, with remarkable lighting, shadow play, and camera work that showcased what was then impossible rendering. Novelty is very high: this tiny film essentially invented the language of modern CGI character animation and remains utterly singular in its historical and artistic impact. The plot is deliberately minimal (a charming vignette, not a story), and there is no voice acting — the lamps communicate entirely through movement. The ending is a light punchline that works well but isn't especially memorable beyond its charm.
