Bullied by his siblings and nagged by his parents, 11-year-old Preston Waters is fed up with his family — especially their frugality. But he gets his chance to teach them a lesson when a money-laundering criminal nearly bulldozes Preston with his car and compensates the boy with a blank check. Preston makes the check out for $1 million and goes on a spending spree he'll never forget.
Blank Check is a fairly formulaic mid-90s family comedy that follows a predictable wish-fulfillment premise without much narrative depth. The plot recycles familiar tropes of kid-gets-rich-quick with light criminal-pursuit tension, and the acting is serviceable but unremarkable across the board. Cinematography is standard studio family-film fare with nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is low given how derivative the concept is — it echoes Home Alone and similar era comedies without carving its own identity. The ending provides mild emotional satisfaction with a moral reset that works adequately for the family genre, giving it a slight edge over the other categories.
