The human race is threatened by a powerful creature, and only the combined power of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and The Flash can stop it. But can they overcome their differences to thwart this enemy using the combined strength of their newly formed Justice League?
Justice League: The New Frontier adapts Darwyn Cooke's beloved comic with a distinctly retro Cold War-era aesthetic that sets it apart from most superhero animation — the 1950s-60s period setting and optimistic, Kennedy-era idealism give it genuine novelty and charm. The voice cast is competent and the animation captures Cooke's clean, stylized art direction reasonably well. The plot, however, is fairly episodic and the central villain (The Centre) remains underdeveloped, making the climax feel rushed and underwhelming. The ending sacrifices emotional payoff for a sweeping but somewhat hollow inspirational montage, leaving the final act as the weakest element.
