Jack Shepard is an out-of-shape auto shop owner, far removed from the man who once protected the world's freedom. Reluctantly called back into action by the government, Jack is tasked with turning a ragtag group of kids with special powers into a new generation of superheroes to save the world from certain destruction.
Zoom is a formulaic, by-the-numbers superhero comedy for kids that offers little originality or distinction. The plot recycles well-worn tropes of the reluctant hero training a ragtag team, with predictable beats and no real surprises. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable even with Tim Allen and Courteney Cox in lead roles — both seem disengaged. Cinematography is bland and TV-movie-level, lacking any visual flair befitting a superhero film. Novelty is low as the film adds nothing new to the genre and feels like a cheaper, duller version of similar films like Sky High (2005). The ending resolves conflicts in the most predictable fashion imaginable. A thoroughly mediocre, forgettable entry in the superhero family film genre.
