A guy has his life planned out until he is wooed, groomed and then dumped by an elusive woman.
This American remake of the beloved 2001 Korean romantic comedy fails to capture the charm and emotional depth of the original. The plot follows the same framework but loses the cultural nuance and heart that made the source material special. Acting from Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford feels flat and lacks the chemistry needed to sell the central romance. Cinematography is competent with decent New York City location work but nothing distinctive. As a remake, Novelty is inherently limited — it recycles the Korean film's premise without adding a fresh perspective. The ending, while trying to deliver emotional payoff, feels unearned given the hollow buildup throughout the film.
