A TV-movie adventure that wears its Indiana Jones influences openly, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is charming in its self-awareness and commitment to pulpy fun. The plot is formulaic and the acting broadly sketched, but the concept of a nerdy librarian as reluctant action hero gives it a mildly distinctive hook. Cinematography is functional TV-movie fare, and the ending resolves predictably. Novelty gets a slight boost for the quirky premise even if the execution is derivative.
