An account of Baron Munchausen's supposed travels and fantastical experiences with his band of misfits.
Terry Gilliam's wild fantasia is a visually spectacular and utterly singular piece of filmmaking — the production design, practical effects, and sheer imaginative scope are remarkable, earning high marks for cinematography and novelty. The cast, including John Neville, Robin Williams, and Uma Thurman, delivers committed and charming work. The episodic plot, however, is deliberately loose and shaggy, fun but not tightly structured, and the ending feels somewhat rushed and anticlimactic given the grandeur of what precedes it.
