Former race car driver Brent Magna is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, taking it and its unwitting owner on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
Getaway is a thin, nearly plotless action film built almost entirely around car chases and vehicle destruction. The story offers nothing beyond its bare premise—a man drives fast or his wife dies—with no meaningful character development or dramatic tension. The acting from Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez is serviceable but constrained by the script's limitations. Cinematography features relentless quick-cut editing during chase sequences that prioritizes chaos over clarity, making it exhausting rather than exhilarating. The film offers little novelty beyond its gimmick of using multiple mounted car cameras, and the resolution is perfunctory and unsatisfying. A competent but thoroughly mediocre action vehicle in every sense.
