Two neurotics, working for a suicide hotline on the night of Christmas Eve, get caught up in a catastrophe when a pregnant woman, her abusive boyfriend, and a cross-dresser visit their office.
'Le Père Noël est une ordure' is a beloved French cult comedy adapted from a stage play by the Splendid troupe, known for its sharp black humor and chaotic ensemble dynamics. The acting is exceptional — the original cast reprising their stage roles brings an unmatched energy and chemistry. Novelty is high because the film has a truly singular voice: its blend of misanthropic wit, absurdist situation comedy, and Christmas-set darkness is utterly distinctive and remains deeply French in a way few comedies achieve. The plot, while stagey and deliberately confined, works well as a pressure-cooker farce, though its theatrical origins show in its limited scope. Cinematography is functional at best — the film makes little visual effort beyond capturing the stage-adapted action. The ending is satisfying within the comic logic but not especially memorable on its own terms.
