The President's daughter, unable to experience life like a normal 18 year-old, escapes from her entourage of Secret Service agents while traveling in Europe. She falls in love with a handsome British stranger, who also happens to be working undercover for her father.
Chasing Liberty is a formulaic romantic comedy that hits every expected beat of the 'sheltered girl finds freedom and love' genre. The plot is predictable, including the telegraphed twist that her love interest is a Secret Service agent working for her father — a revelation that generates conflict but resolves tidily. Mandy Moore brings likable charm and elevates the material modestly, while Matthew Goode is appealing enough. The European travelogue settings (Prague, Venice, Berlin) give the cinematography some visual flair but nothing especially distinctive. The film offers little novelty beyond its presidential daughter hook, which itself echoes similar fish-out-of-water romcom premises. The ending follows the genre's comfortable formula without surprise or emotional depth.
