The Quartile Take

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a loud, frenetic blockbuster adaptation of the classic toy/cartoon franchise. The plot is thin and riddled with clichés — a globe-trotting race to stop supervillains with world-domination weapons, peppered with flashback-heavy backstories that feel contrived. Acting is serviceable at best; most performances lean into camp without enough self-awareness to elevate it. Visually, the film delivers competent but heavily CGI-reliant action sequences — the Paris chase is kinetic but overlong, and the underwater finale is murky. Novelty is low; it largely follows the formula of early-2000s action blockbusters with little distinctive voice of its own. The ending sets up a sequel with a twist that feels telegraphed and unsatisfying rather than earned.
