The Jungle Book 2 (2003)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

Mowgli has been living in the man-village with his little stepbrother Ranjan and his best friend Shanti. But the man-cub still has that jungle rhythm in his heart, and he misses his old buddies Baloo and Bagheera. When Mowgli wanders back to the wild for some swingin' fun, he soon finds the man-eating tiger Shere Khan is lurking in the shadows and planning his revenge.

The Quartile Take

The Jungle Book 2 is a by-the-numbers sequel that rehashes the original's plot beats with little fresh invention — Mowgli is pulled back to the jungle, Baloo and Bagheera react, Shere Khan threatens. The story offers minimal dramatic stakes or new ideas. Animation quality is noticeably lower than the 1967 original, lacking its fluid, expressive style. Voice performances are competent but unremarkable replacements for the classic cast. The ending resolves predictably and safely. Novelty is particularly low as it recycles the premise almost wholesale without a distinctive voice or creative angle.
