When a teenager, Chun-Li witnesses the kidnapping of her father by wealthy crime lord M. Bison. When she grows up, she goes on a quest for vengeance and becomes the famous crime-fighter of the Street Fighter universe.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is widely considered one of the weakest video game adaptations ever made. The plot is a generic revenge origin story that strips away much of what made the Street Fighter universe compelling, replacing it with a bland crime thriller framework. The acting ranges from wooden to miscast across the board, with Kristin Kreuk struggling in the lead role and Neal McDonough chewing scenery as Bison. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, offering standard action-film visuals with little creative ambition. Novelty is low — the film takes an established IP and applies a thoroughly formulaic Hollywood treatment, offering nothing distinctive in conception or execution. The ending wraps up without satisfaction or flair, leaving little impression.
