An island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red, a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck, and the volatile Bomb have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
The Angry Birds Movie is a competent but unremarkable adaptation of the mobile game franchise. The plot is thin and predictable — essentially a vehicle for bird-versus-pig conflict with minimal narrative depth. Voice acting is energetic and professional, with a capable cast lending personality to the characters. Cinematography and animation are colorful and polished, fitting for a mid-budget studio production, though nothing groundbreaking visually. Novelty is low; the premise is derivative and the story beats follow a formulaic underdog-outcast arc familiar from countless animated films. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional payoff beyond slapstick spectacle. It entertains young audiences but offers little that distinguishes it from the crowded animated comedy space.
