Monsters vs Aliens is a fun but formulaic DreamWorks animated romp that blends B-movie monster homage with a female empowerment arc. The plot hits predictable beats — outsider finds her power, defeats the villain, earns self-respect — without much surprise. The vocal cast (Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie) is committed and entertaining, lifting the material. Visually it was designed to showcase 3D technology and delivers solid if not breathtaking animation. The monster-movie parody concept gives it a degree of novelty, but it doesn't push far enough to feel truly distinctive.
