OSS 117: Lost in Rio (2009)

Quartile rating: 7.5/10 · 1 rating

In 1967, OSS 117 is sent to Brazil in order to retrieve a microfilm list of French Nazi sympathizers, only to once again unknowingly set foot into a bigger international intrigue.

The Quartile Take

OSS 117: Lost in Rio sharpens the satirical edge of its predecessor, delivering another pitch-perfect lampoon of 1960s spy films and French colonial attitudes. Jean Dujardin is again superb, committing fully to the oblivious, casually racist Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath with impeccable comic timing — a genuinely standout comedic performance. The retro aesthetic and deliberate genre pastiche remain distinctive and joyfully executed, giving the film a strong Novelty score. The plot is serviceable as a vehicle for gags but grows increasingly meandering, and the ending feels rushed and somewhat anticlimactic compared to the sustained comic invention of the middle act.
