When the old-old-old-fashioned vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together, Hotel Transylvania is in for a collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is a serviceable but largely formulaic sequel that recycles the charm of the original without meaningfully expanding it. The plot centers on Dracula trying to awaken his half-human grandson's monster side, a thin conceit that generates some comedic set pieces but lacks the emotional resonance of the first film. The voice cast (Sandler, Buscemi, Rock) delivers competent, energetic performances consistent with the franchise's style. Visually, the animation is colorful and technically proficient but doesn't push boundaries beyond what the original established. Novelty is low — the film retreads familiar monster comedy beats and introduces Vlad as a one-note antagonist without fresh ideas. The ending resolves too neatly and conveniently, with Vlad's transformation from villain to acceptor feeling rushed and unearned.
